The Drive from JFK to Long Island, Mile by Mile
What is the fastest route from JFK to Long Island?
It depends on where you are going and what time you land. There is no single answer because Long Island is 118 miles long and the traffic patterns between Nassau County and Suffolk County are completely different.
To the North Shore (Great Neck, Manhasset, Port Washington, Roslyn)
Your driver takes the Van Wyck Expressway north to the Grand Central Parkway, then the Cross Island Parkway to the Long Island Expressway. Exit at Lakeville Road for Great Neck, Shelter Rock Road for Manhasset, or Port Washington Boulevard for Port Washington. At midnight with no traffic, this drive is 20 to 25 minutes. During Friday evening rush, the Van Wyck backs up from the Kew Gardens interchange to the JFK exit and the same drive can take 55 to 70 minutes. Your flat rate does not change either way.
To the South Shore (Garden City, Mineola, Hempstead, Rockville Centre, Merrick, Bellmore)
The driver takes the Belt Parkway east along the southern edge of Brooklyn and Queens, past the Aqueduct Racetrack exit and the JFK cargo area, then merges onto the Southern State Parkway or the Meadowbrook State Parkway depending on your exact destination. Garden City is exit 17 off the Southern State. Rockville Centre is one exit earlier. Hempstead is accessible from either the Meadowbrook or the Southern State at Nassau Boulevard. At midnight, 25 to 30 minutes. During rush hour, 45 to 60.
To Suffolk County (Huntington, Commack, Bay Shore, Islip, Ronkonkoma)
Two options. The Long Island Expressway straight through Nassau County to exit 49 for Route 110 (Huntington and Commack) or further east to exit 57 for Ronkonkoma. Or the Southern State Parkway for South Shore Suffolk towns like Bay Shore and Islip. These drives are 40 to 55 minutes at midnight. During the day, the LIE between exits 30 and 49 is one of the most congested stretches of highway on Long Island, and the drive can take 75 to 90 minutes. The flat rate covers all of it.
How JFK Pickup Works for Long Island Passengers
Where does the driver meet me at JFK?
At the terminal arrivals curb. Not the parking garage. Not the Uber staging lot on Federal Circle. The terminal door you walk out of after collecting your bags.
Crown Limousine is a TLC-licensed car service with pre-arranged reservations. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey permits pre-arranged for-hire vehicles to pick up at the terminal curb. This is the same curb the yellow cabs and hotel shuttles use.
Your driver’s name, photo, and vehicle description are sent to your phone the night before your flight. When you land, the driver is already at the terminal. Your flight number is tracked through FlightAware from takeoff. If you land 20 minutes early, the driver adjusts. If your Delta flight from Atlanta is delayed 90 minutes and you do not land until 11:45 PM instead of 10:15, the driver knows before you do. No phone call needed. No rebooking. No “sorry, the driver left.”
Terminal 4 (Delta, KLM, Emirates): Driver waits at the arrivals exit near the taxi dispatch area. Walk out, look for your name.
Terminal 1 (Lufthansa, Air France, Korean Air): Driver at the arrivals curb. International flights mean customs. Up to 90 minutes of free wait time for international arrivals.
Terminal 5 (JetBlue): Driver at the Ground Transportation exit.
Terminal 8 (American Airlines): Driver at the arrivals curb outside baggage claim.
Every terminal. Every airline. Same process. Name sign, luggage loaded, on the road in under three minutes.

Book Your Long Island to LaGuardia car service
Can I get a car service from JFK to Long Island at 1 AM?
Yes. This is where the difference between a car service and every other option becomes impossible to ignore. After midnight, the Long Island Rail Road stops running. The last eastbound trains leave Jamaica Station between 12:30 and 1:15 AM depending on the branch. The Ronkonkoma branch is the earliest to stop. The Babylon branch runs a few minutes longer. After those trains, the platforms go dark until 5 AM.
Uber surge pricing activates after 11 PM at JFK. Fewer drivers work the overnight hours. The ones still on the road are concentrated in Manhattan, not in the JFK staging lot on Federal Circle in Queens. Wait times stretch to 15 or 20 minutes. Driver cancellations on Long Island runs are more frequent because the driver sees a 45 minute deadhead back to the city with no passenger. At 1 AM in December, you are standing in that staging lot in 28 degree wind off Jamaica Bay waiting for a driver who may cancel.
Crown Limousine charges the same flat rate at 1 AM as 1 PM. Your driver tracked your flight. The car is warm. The car seat is installed if you have kids. You are on the Southern State Parkway heading toward Garden City before the Uber app finishes rematching the person next to you on the flight. Read more about late night airport car service.
Corporate JFK to Long Island Transfers
Do you offer invoiced accounts for regular JFK to Long Island travelers?
Executives who fly in and out of JFK every week do not want to book and expense each trip individually. Crown Limousine corporate accounts provide monthly invoicing with itemized receipts for every ride. Each receipt shows the date, route, vehicle type, flight number, and total fare. Custom cost center codes for your accounting department are available on request. The flat rate is the same every time for the same route, which means finance approves the number once and never questions it again. No Uber surge on the expense report. No receipt for $187 that requires an explanation email to your controller. One number, same route, every week. Call (646) 516-9317 to set up a corporate account.
